Alvydas Gostautas, portrait photo

Alvydas Gostautas

In the early period of his work, he created etchings, in the recent decades he mainly paints. The artist paints in watercolour, pastel, ink, and in recent years he works in the field of photography, mixed media while interpreting the tradition of woodcarving in his own way. His works are abstract, revealing the aesthetic qualities of the natural wood texture which are highlighted with the help of an expressive phono contrast of black and white, using bright red, blue, green, yellow accents. Multi-layered images create decisive, generalised, expressionistic plastic effects, the prints are characterised by their own rhythmicity and musicality. The active creative life of Alvydas Goštautas, combining the traditions and experiments of Lithuanian graphic art, forms the authentic direction of contemporary Lithuanian graphics.
