Giedrius Kazimierenas
Born in 1948 in Teberiškės village, Svencionys district. In 1972 graduated from Vilnius Art Institute (now Vilnius Academy of Arts). Has been teaching as a professor in VAI (now VAA) since 1980. In 2002-2003 he held the position of Acting Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, he was the Chairman of the Commission of the Event of the 3rd Culture Congress. In 1983 was awarded The First Prize at the Baltic Triennial of Young Artists “Youth”. In 2011 was awarded the Culture and Art Prize of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. Created cycles of compositions: “French Cycle”, 1997, “Italian Cycle”, 2000, “Greek Cycle”, 2001, “The Spanish Cycle”, 2003-2005, “Lithuanian History Cycle”, 2005-2017, the cycle “Hell’s hymns” inspired by Dante’s work, 2017-2021. The most important highlights of creative activity: International Biennial of Art (Sharjah, UAE), 1997. Internship and work in Paris at the “Cite des arts internacionale” workshop, 1997. International project “Greece through the eyes of Lithuanian artists”. Plein air in Greece and exhibitions: Gunnar Museum (Athens), Vilnius City Hall, 2001. International art project “Madonna’s Iconography in Art”, 2004. Exhibition of historical paintings at Vilnius City Hall, dedicated to the millennium of commemoration of the name of Lithuania, 2009. Exhibition “History of Lithuania in Portugal”, Vila do Conde, 2010. Since 2013, the permanent exposition of Medininkai Castle features “Žalgiris, Dies Irae (Day of Wrath)”, 400×400, canvas, oil paint, gold, silver. Since 2013, the permanent exhibition of Trakai Castle features “Vytautas waiting for the crown”, 250×300, canvas, oil paint, gold, silver. About 20 exhibitions “History of Lithuania in G. Kazimierėnas’ Paintings” were organized in the cultural centers of Lithuanian municipalities (photographers R.Dichavičius and J.Klučius).
