Vilma Vasiliauskaite

Vilma Vasiliauskaitė searches for her relationship with current day realities, expresses her view on aesthetic norms and phenomena of social life. Flower paintings are significant in her work, marked by the mood of bright and clear colours, but, besides this, the artist also takes on complicated tasks, reflected through her figure painting compositions. By interpreting the figure of a woman, she develops the theme that has interested her for a long time : the theme of women through which she views the commodified, objectified modern world. The dominant motif in her canvases is the ballerina that lives on stage, expressing the mystery of femininity that is always balancing between truth and window dressing. The images of these beauties often disappear in the tulle of fancy clothing, the mirage of artificial reflection, leaving behind the feeling of a fleeting, cultivated commodity.
